Digital Tape Machine

The first jam band collaboration group that is going to be featured on this blog is DIGITAL TAPE MACHINE.  The group features members Kris Myers and Joel Cummins from Umphrey’s McGee, and members from other Chicago based bands Strange Arrangement, Liquid Soul, The Hue and Land of Atlantis.

Digital Tape Machine has only been playing shows for a few years now, but all of the members are from the Chicago area and have been collaborating for a long time. This past summer heading lining an east coast festival “The Big Up” and this past fall having a west coast tour along side OHMphrey (another Umphrey’s McGee side project) Digital Tape Machine has been picking up a lot of hype.
I have only seen the band a couple of times, once this past October when they played a show at the Park West.  I am a very big fan of the venue, though it is a bit fancy and bit expensive. The show was a great performance along side OHMphrey (who I had never seen before). Digital Tape Machine is a bit heavier metal then their usual funk and more electronic based projects but still had some solid improvisational grooves. Digital Tape Machine consists of Kris Myers on drums, Joel Cummins on keys, Joe Hettinga on keys and vocals, Marcus Rezak on guitar, David Arredondo on the turntables and beatbox, Kevin Barry on bass and Dan Rucinski on keys and guitar.
Digital Tape Machine plays quit often for being a side project of some much more popular bands. They are currently recording an album in Chicago’s I.V Studios which should be released in the next year.
